John was responsible for establishing IPA’s Dar es Salaam office in 1993. Since that time, he has seen over 200 projects pass through the Dar es Salaam office. His responsibilities include not only client liaison, but also oversight over all aspects of design within the office. He is also proud to say that many dozens of young Tanzanian architects have been trained through his office over the last 30 years to undertake projects to the highest international standards. John is passionate about design and what continues to get him out of bed every morning is a drive to produce the best modern architecture possible in East Africa.
Although originally from Scotland, John became a Tanzanian citizen in 2014 so since that time IPA have been a fully Tanzanian owned company.

Anoek joined IPA in 2010. She is IPA’s principal design architect. Currently overseeing new MOF headquarters. Previously completed the French School in Dar. A highly accomplished and experienced Project Leader
Ed completed his studies in Melbourne, Australia, before returning home to Tanzania and joining IPA in 2012. A talented designer and experienced project runner. Also overseas IPAs IT facilities.
Francis is one of IPA’s most experienced project runners. He has a strong interest in design and is rigorous in ensuring that clients get the best possible service. Currently project architect for new School of economics, UDSM
Aboud completed his 1st degree in Malaysia and then his Masters in Milan, Italy. He is a highly capable designer, currently overseeing a luxury lodge development in Serengeti. Now in his second stint with IPA.
Fred has been working for IPA for now two years. He is a very accomplished designer with strong technical abilities. Highly skilled at 3D modelling and visualisations.
Arnie joined IPA after graduating from the University of Dar es Salaam. A committed team player, he is an all round architect with a big future. Unassuming and reserved but someone who can be relied on to deliver. Whether that be concept designs or detailed design packages.
“Jacko” has been with IPA for 6 years now. An experienced CAD technician with an unrelenting eye for detail. And multiple projects under his belt.
Nurdin is a very experienced construction technologist, with more than 15 years behind him. Known within the office to be methodical and committed to producing highly thought through detailing.
“Nana” joined IPA recently but has already established himself as a very accomplished technologist for large-scale and complex details. Always rises to a challenge.
Sabu completed his first degree at the University of Cape Town. Since joining IPA he has shown a wide range of skills, not least a highly developed design sense. But also maturing fast as a key contributor to project teams.
Allen completed his Master’s degree in Florence, Italy. A recent addition to IPAs staff he has quickly settled in and is a key contributor to several project teams – both as designer and assisting on DD packages.
Safiya is IPAs overall Office Administrator. In charge of Accounting and HR issues. Safiya handles all background issues so that the studio can function smoothly, and all the architects can focus on the work at hand. The fulcrum around which much of the office orbits.
Jackie is IPAs receptionist. Diligent at overseeing any and all office supplies, and general operational & logistical matters. An important member of the team.
Philemon has been working for IPA for more than 10 years now. His job definition is ostensibly driver, but that doesn’t begin to describe it. Everything and anything that needs doing.
Last, but not least, Amina keeps the office spick-and-span and makes sure none of us want for coffee & biscuits.
